A very interesting album especially with what was going on at the time. Though it has a bit of a punky feel Toyah does not sacrifice herself to it and sings in an attractive and bizarre manner only with occasional screams to add character to the already interesting songs. Highlights are the stunning debut single "Victims of the riddle" and the catchy "Race through space". A taste of things to come. Scott Davies 5/30/97

This album is completely realized in both vision and musical form. Everything has a darkly tinged feminism about its themes, from reproduction to escape from life itself. The sound quality on the CD is terrible -- very low-fi.

Toyah's always been too ahead for her time. This one's BRILLIANT.

Can anybody tell me, where abouts in the North West of England can I find copies of other toyah albums, I have only a few of them on vinyl...

One of the best Toyah albums if a little rough round the edges. Hey It was 1979! I would buy this on CD if I could. 'Our Movie' is one of the high points.

Joel Bogen did not appear in GTR, but Phil Spalding, who isn't playing on this album (he joined after 'The Blue Meaning), was the bassist with GTR after supporting Mike Oldfield alongside Simon Phillips in 1983 and before playing for Marcella Detroit (1992) and ManBreak (1997) and has recently teamed up with Joel Bogen again and is featured on the Jai album 'Heaven' (1997). Toyah's first but not real debut album (which was The Blue Meaning, as 'Sheep' was compiled from the debut single 'Victims Of The Riddle', the 'Sheep Farming In Barnet' EP and three extra tracks) displays a rough but original way of songwriting, combining punk, rock and poppy synthesizers to see Toyah emerge as one of the most unique artists ever.

Its a toss up to me whether this or the Changeling is my favourite Toyah album . Many fond memories of waking up as a teenager with a heavy hangover, fumbling to put of the screeching saxophone solo that starts the album (Neon Womb).Ah, people say the 80''s were crap for music, but I rather list to that than bloody Britney Spears!
One of Toyah`s earlier releases. Excellent punk-pop with squeals and off key vocals.Points of interest: Toyah Willcox is the wife of Robert FrippBassist Joel Bogen later played in the group "GTR"Toyah has sung with the group "Sunday All Over the World"
had it on vinyl since the 80's , just got it on c.d. i am so impressed with the anger, the spirit, the insight. it is a brilliant and inspirational piece of music. i defy anybody not to listen 2 it and love it
