This album was recorded in March, 1982 at Roundhouse Studios using the only digital multi-track recording system in the UK at the time.

This album shows that, unlike a lot of other people that tasted fame, Toyah has not sold out! The album opens with the very odd "Creepy room" and continues fabulously through to the wonderfully catchy, should have been single "Street creature". Other highlights are the Yoko Ono influenced "Angel and me" and the classic rock sound of "The Packt". The albums final good song is the odd "Life in the trees" with those timeless lyrics everyone should be singing "Coo coo coo conny con corn". The final 3 songs represent Toyah at her least interesting, trying to appeal to the masses with the painful "Dawn Chorus" and the lone single "Brave new world". Scott Davies 5/30/97

This is my favourite Toyah album, and I wish someone would release it on CD. It was the first album on which Toyah explored her softer side (Castaways & Run Wild Run Free) and she managed to retain strength without resorting to sounding too girlie. I was surprised Run Wild Run Free was not included on the Acoustic Album, as Toyah once sung it live accompanied only with a piano and it was stunning.

It is the second best Toyah album for my taste. I have a promotional copy of the album printed in Finland by Unitor Oy (1982). So if anyone is interested...(I also have a finnish jukebox single: I want to be free/Thunder in the mountains by Safari with white labels).Interested to know if the single is released in any area of the Earth with these two songs?

Great album! Surely not the awaited follow-up to Anthem, but really impressing and original. The album sleeve already is worth having it. The lyrics on this album - songs lyrics plus extra lyrics on the sleeve - are amazing. Toyah at her very best - but that's not amazing at all.

This is undoubtedly Toyah's finest moment. Every track (with the possible exception of the poppy 'Street Creature')deserves it's place on this excellent album. Guitarist Joel Bogen paints colourful, fluid images with his Roland guitar synthesizer that take you to places you never knew existed. Bassist Phil Spalding and renowned session drummer Simon Phillips provide rhythmic interest. Toyah is captured at her best both lyrically and vocally. Much, much better than 'Anthem'. A magical masterpiece.

I would just like to say that on the cd version of this album there is a bit missing! Remember at the end of side 1 on the vinal after Angel & Me came the "cave" drum roll and water splosh? Well it's not here! Oh no...

I just got this album on CD from Cee Dee in the UK, released by Connoisseur Collection EVSOP CD 264. The HDCD sound is pristine (and I'm ecstatic that they've intelligently used HDCD encoding). This is a great album highlighting all I like about Toyah. No sellout. I agree that Street Creature doesn't quite belong.

The first Toyah album I ever bought, and along with Love is the law my favourite from the safari days, life in the trees and run wild, run free are the most memorable tracks on this album for me, I always found it refreshing back when everything was so electric!
