Comments for Toyah, Minx

Despite being slated by some of the fans, this album actually contains some reasonably good songs (although, admittedly, there are some truly awful ones too) and an, er, interesting version of Alice Cooper's `School's Out'. PS If any of the fans who don't like this album would like to sell it to me, they can contact me at the above address! :)

This was my first Toyah album. Bought it in San Diego. I like it. Not quite the harder edge she is known for but good nonetheless.

This album is said to be Toyah at her worst. Well it's not all bad. Who can resist the undeniably catchy "Don't fall in love". Other high points are the great "I'll serve you well" and the catchy, although a little to serious "All in a rage". The downfall seems to be the over use of other people's material. Can anyone out there help me locate a copy of this on CD? Scott Davies 5/30/97

Sometimes agents and producers can destroy completely a recording. Still a great cover sleeve & title

Sympathy is the anarchic version that makes this album worth for buying. Other songs aren't much to mention. I don't have the cd-version, but want to buy one!

Now that I have this on CD, Finally!!!, I can comment on the 2 bonus tracks. Over 21 is very cornball and uninteresting. Vigilante is very catchy in an over blown sort of way. Quite a treat. The CD also contains the lyrics to the bonus tracks. Scott Davies 5/31/98

The fault with Minx is just its then popular pop sound. Apart from the above mentioned Sympathy it contains the stunning I'll Serve You Well and Space Between The Sounds. Too bad they haven't included the B-Side tracks Snow Covers The Kiss and Kiss The Devil which have got far more potential than the unbearable Over 21.

The problem with this album was lack of musical direction once guitarist and co-writer Joel Bogen had left the camp. Music was becoming secondary to Toyah's other activities and it was beginning to show. Not a very memorable album though I think keyboards man Adrian Lee made a re-appearance on the first track 'Soldier of Fortune'. The best song from this era was 'Snow Covers The Kiss' - reduced to a B-side.

Minx is a very good album. I think all the tracks are strong. I *LOVE* "Donīt fall in Love" !!!! It is one of my all time favorites. "Soldier of Fortune", "Soul Passing.." and "World in Action" are stand out tracks. "Iīll serve you well" and "America for Beginners" are chilling. This album should have been a big hit for her. Maybe songs like "All in a rage" and "Schoolīs out" didnīt help. I remember finding the album in Gibraltar, of all places, in 1986 and I just played "Donīt fall in Love" over and over again.... And she looks FANTASTIC on the sleeve photos ! the 80īs at itīs best. Thanx Toyah, Wil.

I have always liked this album, as the first none Safari album a lot of hopes were riding on this and commercially it didn''t do the business and I''m not sure why as it''s got some really wonderful stuff on it. All In A Rage and I''ll Serve You Well are up there with other Toyah numbers, the Japanese influence evident throughout the album creates great atmposphere. Toyah has never done many covers throughout her career but here we have four on one album, if I had to plump for one though it would be America For Beginners. I''m trying to track this down on CD but it''s like finding the Holy Grail, if anyone can help please E Mail me. If not, we - the Toyah fans - should find out who currently holds the rights to this album and campaign for a CD re-release.

This Album, for me, is One of Toyah's best! 'Anthem' & 'The Changeling' are classics, but 'Minx' shines out! best tracks have got to be 'Soldiers of Fortune', 'I'll Serve you well' & my alltime Toyah Fave 'Don't Fall in Love ( I said)' sadly, I only have this album on cassette, I can't find it on vynil or cd - anyone got any ideas- email me at above address cheers!
