Comments for Toyah, The Acoustic Album

I think the RPO strings are only on the final track; I had hoped they would've appeared on more songs, but worthwhile nonetheless.

A pretty interesting collection for what it is although "It's a mystery" times 3 is a recipe for Hell. "Jungles of Jupiter" and "Danced" take on and almost catchy, pop feel where as "I am" is played a bit faster making it sound cluttered and on the wrong speed. "Ieya" is the worst remake (of the good songs that is.) Toyah sings most of it in an almost sensual whisper and she doesn't even say "Ieya" once in this version. The squeaks and hacking of phlegm noises are nowhere to be found either. On the plus side, "Thunder in the mountains" is the best new version and "Blue meanings" seems to improve on the original in this form. The orchestra, as promoted on the cover, is in short supply. I think I can only here them on "The Vow" and "It's a mystery". I think It's time for Toyah to record some new songs and leave the past (and the the dance music) alone, unless of course It's for a full scale CD re-issue program. Scott Davies 6/20/97

"I am", "It's a mystery (string version) and "Blue meanings" are simply perfect. "I want to be free" and "rebel run" too rockish for my tast. Bring back the goth...

Can't find this one from Finland. So I can't comment this, but would buy one, though!

Sounds like an interesting concept but where is 'The Packt' which would surely benefit from this kind of orchestral treatment. An opportunity missed.

This Toyah recording "Toyah-The Acoustic Album" (in addition to "Toyah Looking Back") has been re-released in 1998 on QED Records (another subsidary of the original issuer Tring) The new version has exactly the same track listing with same artwork but improved spine design. (it actually says Toyah now!) The catalogue number is :QED 298

It''s great to hear Toyah singing Blue Meanings and Angels and Demons again! Of course I would love to hear some NEW Toyah material, but this is pretty good. I can''t help but think that Toyah may have drawn some inspiration from Bjork''s unplugged performance....anyone agree?
This album features acoustic versions of some Toyah songs including some of the hits. The strings of The Royal PhilharmonicOrchestra feature on afew songs. The best songs are the ones which have been re-worked from their original versions such as Blue Meanings and I Am. Three versions of It`s A Mystery on one album is a bit excessive, especially considering the size of Toyah`s back catalogue.

THIS IS A DEFINATE DON'T.BUY COPIES OF THE ORIGINAL ALBUMS INSTEAD OF THIS BADLY PRODUCED RUBBISH THAT DOESN'T SHOW OFF TOYAH'S PHENOMINAL VOICE WELL ENOUGH.
