This is a very good album. Very pop-oriented, and much softer and light-hearted than, for example, OOPS WRONG PLANET. The album contains 15 relatively short songs, nothing pretentious, and mostly fun. "Libertine" is the best track on the album, and it couldn't be any simpler. It's just a quick song that does its thing and moves on. Such is the case with most of the songs on this album. Other highlights are "Bad Little Actress", "Feet Don't Fail Me Now", "Call It What You Will", "Hammer In My Heart", and "I'm Looking At You ...". It does have some deadweight though, and the album could have been streamlined into a two-sided LP (it's actually a 3-sided album) by cutting tracks like "Burn Three Times", "Infrared and Ultraviolet", and "Say Yeah". But these are the worst the album has to offer, and they are at least tolerable. The remaining songs are all very good. I'd rank this album in the "must have" category.

Shortly after its release, much to my surprise this album was presented as one of Stereo Review's "Best of the Month" (one of the few examples of critical acclaim for the band). If this had been pared down to 2 sides from its original 3, it might have been a pop classic. The Beatle-isms that were so blatant on Deface the Music appear here but more in terms of an influence (although "Say Yeah" sounds like a Deface outtake). Highlights are "Bad Little Actress", "I'm Looking at You ...", "Hammer in my Heart", and "There Goes My Inspiration". My list of exclusions would have included "Feet Don't Fail Me Now" (a minority viewpoint!), "Neck on Up", "Call it What You Will", and "Burn Three Times". Easily the most pop-oriented Utopia album, this release is about as far away from the first Utopia album as it could be.

Does anyone know why this band had such a short life span, or what happened to them? This is one of the best pop albums ever. "Hammer in My Heart" is one of the best rock cuts ever. Why Michael Jackson is famous and Utopia isn't is a mystery on the order of loaves and fishes. Get this record! A masterpiece.

My favourite Utopia album. Nearly every song has something good about it, i.e. the chorus, solos, harmonies. Favourite tracks are Libertine, Say yeah, I'm looking at you...,Chapter and verse. The only down side is Bad little actress, my least favourite Utopia song.

This is, by far, my favourite Utopia album!!Check out the lyrics to (There goes)My Inspiration. Todd is sheer genius and you must have this record (cd) in your collection. Another Todd fave...A Cappella. You won''t be sorry for buying either one of these masterpieces from the Wizard.
