Comments for Van Halen, Best Of Volume I

After listening to the two new songs with David Lee Roth, I realized that what he brought to Van Halen helped define the group. The "brown" sound that VH is famous for has DLR's vocals as an integral part. Let's face it, his voice has that "brown" sound : not too much bass and not too much treble. Sammy may have had a great voice, but it never seemed quite right. I find myself listening to the DLR tracks more often than the others, as those are the songs that define Van Halen for me. But to anyone out there who wonders what this whole Van Halen circus is about (and I don't think there are that many of you), I strongly recommend this album (with the suggestion that you consider checking out their other ten studio albums), and decide for yourself who makes VH sound like VH.

This album(to me) defines Van Halen. this should be the only album. the range of guitar styles sweep a wide spectrum with the songs exhibited here. and to me, i could care less about the differences between Sammy and David. the guitars and bass and drums and piano are what truly make up Van Halen. this album is awesome! just enjoy it, people! they rock. period.

Shows you that DLR is what made VH. Sammy is ok, but as most VH fans say, DLR just fits better. And this ablum is a must if you never have listened to VH much or whonder what the hype is all about. Please bring David Lee Roth back!!!!

Overall, a decent sampling of the band's career before Gary Cherone stepped in (shit). A better idea would have been ALL DLR-era VH tunes!
