Comments for Wakeman, Rick, The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table

A worthy concept for an album and quite a nice treatment ofit. The music varies in style from the sublime to theridiculous, sometimes in the one track ("Merlin the Magician"with its oddly placed honky-tonk pieces amongst otherwiseepic sounding orchestrated rock). The songs are quite strongwith "Guinevere" working well as a ballad. The epic piecesrock along nicely (although the cringable chanting of "Fight"at the beginning of "Sir Lancelot and the Black Knight"calls up images of Lucy and Snoopy more than two knightsengaged in a mortal struggle). The vocalists are good andthe orchestra, choir and band well arranged to lend a classicfeel to the material (the bass on "Merlin" is particularlynice). For non-Wakeman Arthur enthusiasts: he doesn`t playa lot of extended wailing monophonic synth. solos; they arepresent in moderation. All in all a worthy (if dated) work,Ian Thomas.

An album that MUST be heard!! Transports one to another time and place. Wakeman's keyboards are as always incomparable. Add this one to your collection!
