Listen to the overture very loud through headphones. Good Headphones. Listen to it again. One more time. Feel better? Good.

A masterpiece. It's immensely enjoyable from beginning to end, with the exception of Underture and Welcome, IMHO (boring). Can't believe that Townshend managed to CREATE the rock opera just like that. And with such a masterpiece. WOW! Andrew Lloyd Weber? Hahahaha! 9/10

uhm this album to me is better than Quadrophenia. I feel that it''s a stronger effort. Quadrophenia is more in your face. This one touches the heart
This is the album that firmly established the Who as oneone of the leading rock bands of the 1970s.Although previous hits during the late `60s like "Boris the spider", "Substitute", "I can see for miles", and, of course, "My generation" (these songs have all beenconveniently re-released on the album "Meaty Beaty Big andBouncy") were instrumental in establishing the Who as a successful rock band, it was Tommy that launched the infamous equipment-smashing band over the top. The most popular single off the album was "Pinball wizard",a track which Elton John later covered in the `70s. EltonJohn also appeared in the movie version of Tommy, playing Tommy Walker`s pinball adversary and wearing those humongous platform boots and gaudy sunglasses for which he used to be so famous.Tommy was controversial when it was first released, due in large part to the track "Fiddle about" that describes Tommy`s Uncle Ernie molesting him when he is baby sitting Tommy.Tommy is recognized as the first Rock Opera, essentiallyestablishing a new sub-genre of music. The Who produced another rock opera, Quadrophenia. Although not nearly as commercially successful as Tommy, Quadrophenia accurately chronicles the strife in England between the social groups the Mods and the Rockers duringthe mid-`60s.Curt RobbinsGaithersburg, MD

The greatest The Who ever put forth on the planet. This is the story of a boy who can't see, can't hear and can't even talk, but he has some sort of magic in him, that can make him become world famous. Eventually, he becomes the new Tommy who can see, can hear and can speak just fine...and then gets the world dumped on him. This is a great album. You should have seen me at the Caddy's in Victoria. I sang this song up on stage with a human-jukebox guitarist. Man was I really popular there!
