Comments for Wire, Pink Flag

Good stuff. Basically progressive punk, or something like that. Their next two albums went further into art and minimalism, but this one's got lots of good musical content on it.

Beg to differ, actually. I always found the stark grey wall of guitars and all those one-minute 'songs' a lot less attractive than later (78- ) Wire.

The most overated Wire album of them all. The walls of guitars and short songs appeal at first but soon become tedious and the album lacks longevity. There's some good writing here and it shows potential which is harnessed on Wire's later LPs but why people take this as being the ultimate album I'll never know.

Too harsh judgements, as far as I''m concerned. The album may lack the inventiveness and magnificent austerity of 154, but as far as post-punk goes, there''s not an album with so many good tunes, and sparkling playing. Not their best, but a very good album still.

Ridiculously brilliant album, I think. The impressive thing, after listening to it for years, isn't so much that the songs are incredibly precise and clever, artificial and detached yet deeply emotional, but that so many songs are organised so well! To me it just doesn't sound as good on random play. I don't think it pays to categorise Wire or this album in particular.
