Comments for X, Under The Big Black Sun

E-MAIL: mbyrd@micros.com
One of the shining stars of the early-80's "new wave", X broke into the national spotlight with this album. Fueled by some top-notch rhythym guitars, this collection of songs dealt with the death of singer Exene Cervenka's sister in a drunk-driving accident a few years earlier. Both touching and, at times, nihilistic, it is an album worthy of a listen more now than at the time of it's release.

"The Have Nots" is one of the best rock songs of the ''80s. This band was not particularly pretty and didn''t try to be. They certainly knew how to rock. They were not a media favorite. More''s the pity. This album is priceless.
One of their better albums. Great guitars!

Under The Big Black Sun defined a new americana, folk, blues, and punk fused together in the bristling west-coast punk scene of the early 80's. X created an album of versatility and brilliance which continues to rock out. It's like speeding through the desert in an old brown sedan convertable at midnight.
