Well, their debut album doesn't seem exactly to have a very definite style. It's strongly influenced mainly by Beatles and jazz-oriented music, but anything really striking that could form a distinctive character for the group. I don't particularly get excited to jazz music ... and I'm not honestly a very big fan of Bill Bruford, a wonderful artist on drums and percussions, but I won't cry when he later leaves the band for King Crimson. I like this a lot! It's an excercise in psychedelia but with some very nice instrumental interplay, especially from Bill Bruford who sounds different on this early, jazz-rock-y styled music than he ever did later. Bruford was probably the most creative of them at this point in time : proper respect, please, to this man! The highlight to me is the lovely version of "I See You"; the rest of the material is dated but kind of nice as such. A funny little record from the late 60's.

I too, love " I see you " . YES knows! I can't find words for their music. They are very underrated. I really don't care for the 80's stuff.

I think this was the best debut album of '69. It announces the a great band and a great sound. Their majestic version of Beatles' "Every little thing she does", can be considered a new song. It was something else then it was before. Was a breakthrough. Was real music, complex music, celestial music.

the debut album from Yes is a pleasant intro to the band. Jon''s vocals, as well as the vocal harmonies between Jon and Chris, are as strong as ever (esp. on the sweet pop tunes "Sweetness" and "Yesterday and Today". Jon''s storytelling lyrics ("Harold Land", "Survival") are in their infancy here.
