Comments for Yes, The Yes Album

YES music begins to take shape with this album, whose title probably means to be a second start of their career. The entry of Steve Howe makes the songs richer of contents, much more interesting and original than before. Each of the songs has gained a place amongst YES classics, and I particularly prefer "Yours is no disgrace" and "The Clap". Tony Kay leaves the band after this 3rd album, but, again, I won't miss him very much, in comparison with his substitute.... GL

Steve Howe est epoustouflant a la guitare, entre autres sur the "Clap". C`est un tres bon album a se procurer absolument, vous ne le regretterez pas! ¸

INSPIRATION is what "YES" is all about, the great unique rock and roll is a bonus and one of the manifestations of that inspiration. Like "Yes", my primary source of inspiration is the GREAT SPIRIT potentially inside of all of us. Among my finest influences in reaching some of that spiritual potential have been the great rock & roll group "Yes", and the spiritually inspiring books written by "KEN CAREY". How do you rate inspiration, "Yes" & "Ken Carey" get 10's on my subjective chart. -Ed McConnell

The first in a run of excellent albums which mixed classical and rock forms, and quite frankly produced some great music. "Art rock" may not have solved all of the world's problems, but there was some great music at the heart of it and this is some of it.

The first of the classic yes albums. All songs are excellent, even the much underrated "A Venture". But the interpretation of the songs is not as good as on later live recordings. And that's not only because of the rather uninspired playing of Tony Kaye. Jon's voice hasn't developed it's full beauty. The worst thing about the album is the ugly cover.

This album is appropriately titled for it is the foundation of Yes. Energetic, fresh, inspiring.....some of their best work! Although this was Tony Kaye's farewell album, I would agree that he was not sorely missed.

After firing Peter ("he was too lazy" sez Jon), and getting Steve, Yes finally discover their personal style on this album. Jon''s lyrics start moving towards that obscure but positive style that would be an integral part of the rest of Yes''s music in the 70s. Only "A Venture", with its storytelling style, bears any strong resemblance to their previous 2 albums. The extended pieces (especially the beautiful 3-part "Starship Trooper") show exactly what they''re capable of musically.

Arguably the best Yes album. Sheer perfection. No one has mentioned the superb song, "Perpetual Change". Wow! This is one of those "if I were stranded on an island...." recordings. I like other Yes stuff, but nothing comes close to this great work, IMO.
