Probably the best album written forever !

One of a handful of CDs that should be in EVERYONE'S collection. Incredible musicianship and vocals. Awesome!

INSPIRATION is what "YES" is all about, that's where their great unique rock and roll comes from. Like "Yes", my primary source of inspiration is the GREAT SPIRIT potentially inside all of us. Among my finest influences in reaching some of that spiritual potential have been the great rock & roll group "Yes", and the spiritually inspiring books written by "KEN CAREY". How do you rate inspiration? "Yes" & "Ken Carey" get 10's in my heart. -Ed McConnell

Side 1 is awesome, a pinnacle of something or other. "And You & I" is great though basically it repeats itself - it's the same music twice in a row. Still, it's nice. "Siberian Khatru" works better on the live "Yessongs". The lyrics are really nonsensical on this, embarrisingly so, but the music was exquisite. The sound was becoming more full and rock-like, making Bruford uncomfortable apparently and leading to the recruitment of the excellent Alan White.

About the departure of Bill Bruford. While Alan White is a fine drummer, I think that to say Bruford left because Yes was rocking too hard is ridiculous. Bruford left Yes for King Crimson, a much harder rocking (and frankly more creative and influential) outfit than Yes ever was. If you have any doubts about this, check out the Crimso album Red, particulary One More Red Nightmare.

What can I say? This is what music is all about. The title track and "And You And I" are the greatest pieces of music that was ever created by mortal men. Well, at least I think so. I can'put my feelings regarding these two tracks in words, so just go and buy the remastered version of the CD if you don't have it already. If you don't like it, you won't like anything from the group except some of the more radio-friendly tracks of the Rabin era. "Siberian Khatru", the third song is very good too, but not as great as the other two. If the album had "Heart Of The Sunrise" instead, I would have thought it came from heaven.

"Close To The Edge" is the heart of Yes's soul. It is simply the best album they ever made. If you can get beyond Eddie Offord's miserable recording standards then you'll find heaven.

This album is really great. The music is very well written and the sound is terrific. I think that 'And You and I" is their most innovative musical piece.

Yes''s most definitive album. The 20 minute "Close to the Edge" encapsulates all of Yes''s musical skills. Also, Jon perfects his float-by-and-don''t-mean-a-thing lyrical style here. However, personally i find the organ solo in "Close to the Edge" a bit annoying and headache-inducing while wearing headphones, and the slower sections of "And You And I" tend to go on too long. These are probably the only reasons why Close to the Edge is not my favorite Yes Album. Otherwise it''s a masterpiece of prog rock.

The opus of Close To The Edge harkens me back to my high school days, when myself and a few other geeks would light up and the set the star projector spinning in my high school planetarium. (Believe it or not, Beverly Hills High has a very high grade planetarium)We'd contemplate the lyrics and fantasize that we were space travelers. Funny enough I found a copy of the CD in Amsterdam and got a bartender in a pot bar to play it for me and a buddy. The other patrons in the bar totally got into it! Phew! whatta trip...

This is one of the greatest Yes albums ever! If you like "Fragile" then this is one you'll defenitely love.
