"Harvest", recorded with Neil's Nashville band the Stray Gators, is the album NY put out to show the world he could make a top-40 record if he wanted to. After releasing this album, which turned Neil into a bonafide "rock star", he had nothing left to prove. People who bought subsequent Young albums looking for another "Heart of Gold" were severely dissapointed, and eventually faded away . . .

This is a classic album for anyone's collection, all of the songs are winners. Even though Heart of Gold has been overplayed, it is a classic that everyone knows the words to.

So here Neil becomes a commercial success with Heart of Gold. He adds James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt to smooth out his own rough edges. Is it a sell out? Not when you follow the path from here, more natural progression. Talk about what a long strange trip it''s been.

Opens well and tuneful and then closes with some of the greatest tunes ever via Words, Needle, and Alabama. A good album, it deserves more credit.
