Comments for Young, Neil, Unplugged

Not by far a complete record of Neil's recording career, but a fine choice for a first time listener. Neil takes some of the new with some of the old - wholly reworked in some cases - and some of the previously unreleased. A great place to start if you're just finding Neil for the first time, and a fine place to look back if you've known him a while.

Avery laid back and unsurprising album, this is possibly the least interesting and unchallenging album of Neil's career. Avoid it unless you just loved Harvest Moon, since there is a healthy portion of that album on this one. The only worthwile songs are Transformer Man and the Old Laughing Lady.

Although under the spell of "Big Brother" MTV, Young probably does the best show of the entire Unplugged-series. This show captures Young with some interesting renditions of oldtimers (especially Like a hurricane and Mr. Soul), mediocre versions of Helpless and Unknown Legend but absolutely beautiful versions of Harvest Moon and Pocahontas. Altogether a good album.

Although I have been a fan for over 15 years (I''m 32), this album is by far one of his best. At each stage and age of my life, I can listen to a song or an album and FEEL like someone understands. (It also reminds me of my youth and times of my life that I tend to reflect on from time to time.) His music and lyrics paints a portrait...a true artist!
