Comments for Young, Neil, Time Fades Away

I wish I could have seen it also, because this is simply one of the greatest live albums ever made... because it is just that, live and very raw. The emotion, however tinged by booze, comes through on every number, especially on the "core", as it were, of the album, LA through to The Bridge. This is the first of many classics from Neil.

Unfortunately the copy I have of this LP was picked up from a used record shop and the quality of the sound is severely diminished. Yet, I find the album quite good. It was definitely a difficult time for Neil, but the music is haunting, every once in a while I can hear the lyrics "Fourteen junkies, too weak to work... down on mainstreet, disappointment lurks..." (Atleast I think these are the lyrics) I would recommend the album to any Neil Fan. Yeah so what, the recording was not perfect but if you are looking to spend a good 40 minutes listening to Neil, this would be a sure 40.

I guess you had to be there !

My perception of this album is probably tainted due to the unpleasant nature of the 1973 Myriad concert in OKC. It is very possible that if I had never attended the concert, my opinion of this album would be completely different. Actually, I do think that they did a pretty decent job on the song "L.A." which happens to be one of the tracks recorded in OKC.

Bad sound? Or tortured sound? Big difference. If you're going to condemn this record because it doesn't sound pretty, maybe you'd be more comfortable with a Moddy Blues/Osmond collaboration. If you like Neil, and want to dive in, get this album. If you can't get it, buy a Tom Waits record.

There are nervous tracks on the album of course, done by a musician who was pushed to the edge. You can hear it. You can feel Tonight's the Night out there in the horizon. Once in a while everybody feels like 'Yonder'I guess. It's a must for people who are ready for a metamorphosis.

... as far as Neil albums go, i consider Time Fades Away and On The Beach two of the greatest! TFA is pure, earthy, unpolished, raw rock. There's not a bad song on the album. in fact, it's the one that made me a fan.

This is one of the greatest live rock albums of all time. This defines "rock and roll". The pain and anguish of losing your best freind(s), the dissapointment of being a "rock star" and the sheer hell of having to deal with record companies all come out in this masterpiece of dealing with pain and loss. Unfortunately, I haven't heard this album in over a decade. I seem to have an obsession with owning this album and two others; "On the Beach" and "Hawks and Doves". These have always been my favorite Neil albums and ironically, I can't obtain them. I sincerely wish that Neil puts aside his opinions about sound quality and re-releases these albums before true fans, such as myself, are no longer here. I've been waiting a long time Neil! I've supported you all these years! Where was I when "Tonight"s the Night" came out you ask? Why I was at the record store buying your album! My question is; where are you when I need you?? BIG FAN IN ANAHEIM

Indeed!!! Time Fades Away, as well as On the Beach, American Stars and Bars, and Hawks and Doves are all great albums. Unfortunately none of them are legitamely available on cd. I have, however, obtained "bootlegged" versions of the cds. The sound quality is pretty good (they were obviously recorded from the albums), and they all include bonus tracks - acoustic versions of "Powederfinger," "Pocahonas (I know it's mispelled)," etc. It would be worth your while to track down these albums.

I recently bought this record at a used record store for six bucks, it was well worth it. Very emotional and raw outing that chronicles a difficult period in Young's career in a powerful way. LA and the title track are classics.

I was fortunate enough to see this tour at Long Beach Arena. Many people were unaware that Neil was suffering from a very painful back problem and growth than was forming on his throat near his vocal cord. Sometimes Neil's best work has come from periods where his voice was on the edge. Tonight The Night is the classic example. I only wish he would work more of these old songs into his live shows. Maybe the CSN&Y tour will allow him to perform The Last Dance or Lookout Joe.

truly remarkable.....this album got left out on my dresser by my then younger brother. it was warped and i was pissed!!!! this album ranks as far as i''m concerned with on the beach....definetly aclassic and needs to be re-released also!!!! LA...uptight...gettin'' sucked up into cracks in the earth......
A substandard and sloppy "live" album compiled from recordingsmade during Neil`s 1973 U.S. tour. The album is deceptivein that the actual live performances were much worse than the enhanced recordings would indicate. Having attended the concert at The Myriad in Oklahoma City, I can vividly rememberthe entoxicated Mr. Young, drinking Tequila Shots on stage, while trying desperately to screech out his high pitchedvocals through his shredded vocal cords. While I willalways love Neil`s music, and remain a true fan, this was one of the most unpleasant live concert events that I have ever attended. The main question I have always had about this album is: WHY WAS IT MADE ?
I think of this and on the beach as my own private neil records; personal, bleak, uplifting nonetheless' I can only listen to time fades in the car now, driving wherever whenever with whomever (usually alone); 'fourteen junkies' the first words uttered on the record and i am comforted that i've entered someone else's dark place; the volume goes up and time happily fades away...

This is the album that introduced me to Neil Young, and I have been a fan ever since. Sure, this period piece is rough around the edges and being from Toronto, Canada, I never knew much about the concert, but I can tell you that songs such as: "L.A." and "Don't Be Denied" really did it for me and still do. I hope Mr. Young changes his mind and re-releases this album, so that I can re-live it. It has been 20 yrs. since have I owned this album and I want to play it over and over again, just for the music. inspiration to many songwriters and budding guitarists like myself.

Always my favorite NY album for some strange reason (youthful longing and painful disappointments I suppose) but hard to find (never re-released on CD) I was lucky to find a copy at Recycled Records in Reno, Nevada a couple years ago. If I was stranded on a desert island it would be in my top five along with the Stones Exile On Main Street, The Flying Burritto Brothers Gilded Palace of Sin, Mott The Hoople's first album and the Who's Who's Next? Check it out if you can ever find it.
