Neil Young's unheard Classic still Missing In Action Re*ac*tor, while still unavailable on compact disc in the States (I've had people searching for it on disc throughout Europe and Japan to no avail, but vinyl and cassete copies are out there for the knowledgeable music shopper) is a must-have for fans of the "grunge" movement in the early 90's. Recorded in spurts in 1980-81 while Young was primarily focusing on treatment of his son's servere cerabal palsy, Re*ac*tor is a sloppy, messy, almost lo-fi classic. If Young lyrically and emotionally dismantled on 1975's Tonight's the Night, Re*ac*tor shows young and company at their musical wits end. On most tracks, Young and guitarist Frank "Pancho" Sampedro don't clash, they collide. In addition, The very able rhythm section of bassist Billy Talbot and drummer Ralph Molina come close, at times, to dismantling. The result here is more than 40 minutes of chaotic bliss. There's not a bad song on this album. At the time of its release, Re*ac*tor was met with mixed reviews. If it was easily available (the sooner this album is made accessible to the masses, the better), Re*act*or would undoubtedly be regarded as an overlooked masterpiece. Fans of 1991's Ragged Glory should find Re*ac*tor to be a very neccesary, albeit overlooked companion piece. The only problem here, however, is actually finding it. The sooner re-released, the better.

For any real NY fan, this album is good, but not near as good as what the fellow above has written about it. To use the word "masterpiece" in describing RE*AC*TOR is simply ridiculous. Neil would think so too. One of the main reasons he released this record was to fullfill contractual agreements. If the average recording artist had put out an album with this sort of material, it would have been a huge failure. Because it is Neil Young however, it belongs in every fan's collection.

Will Re*ac*tor ever be released on CD? I think it is one of Neil's better albums along with Hawks & Doves!

I have a single of RE-AC-TOR...Southern Pacific backed with Motor City. The record sleeve is triangular shaped, red with the cuts printed in black. Totally cool and I'd just like to know if anybody out there owns this 45 also.

Good news!!! Reactor, as wells as Hawks and Doves, American Stars 'N' Bars, On the Beach, and Time Fades Away are available on cd - in "bootlegged" or imported versions. The discs were made directly from the albums (you can hear some crackles), but the sound quality is still very good. Each disc even has numerous bonus tracks.

TERRIFIC ROCK'N GRUNGE. EXCELLENT WORK OUT MUSIC.
I am a huge fan of Neil Young and I like just about anything he's done, that is anything except for his album "This Note's For You". Anyway, the album "Reactor" should have gotten much better reviews than what it did. It contained some of Neil Young's finest electric guitar playing, especially on the track "T-Bone". Sounds great! *Ron Haynes Age: 26 Clarkesville, Ga.

This is the rockingest album I have ever heard. I am not saying it is the best, but it is very good. I stumbled on a copy at a flea market on record. I am dying to get a good cd copy. It is a MUST HAVE for any fan and worth selling your soul for if you are a serious collector.
