Comments for Zevon, Warren, Excitable Boy

E-MAIL: sgthomas@woodland.digex.net
What, no comments? This is a great album. Ok, it's a little on the 70's-slick side ("Nighttime" is a lame stab at disco), but it's produced by Jackson Browne and guitarist-for-rent Waddy Wachtel, so there you are. Everybody knows "Werewolves", of course (AOR Halloween staple to this day), but this really is a good starting point for his work (and still one of the easiest to find). The Gonzo Troubador role was a pretty popular one in Cali back in the day, I guess - Waits was more authentic, Nilsson hung out more with Lennon, and Warren probably lost some credibility from hanging out with Fleetwood Mac, Linda Ronstadt and the afforementioned Mr. Browne. But listen to the title track or "Roland", and suddenly the West Coast climate that produced Zevon and fellow black-humorist Michael O'Donoghue doesn't seem quite so sunny. Evil, but good.

A great album all the way around, but worth buying JUST for "Lawyers, Guns & Money".
