Comments for Zevon, Warren, Warren Zevon

This is such a great album! There are so many memorable lines, such as "If I start actin'' STOOPID I''ll shoot myself." Then there''s the passage from "Desperados": "And if California slides into the ocean Like the mystics and the statistics say it will I predict this motel will be standing Until I pay my bill..." Or how about "Join Me In L.A.": "Well, they say this place is evil That ain''t why I stay..." Case closed. The guy''s a genious.
Warren`s first album. I had to look about four years to finda copy of this on CD; YMMV. A good album, with the track listingcredits reading like Who`s Who in `70s California Rock(Jackson Browne, Glen Frey, Bonnie Raitt, hell, even LindseyBuckingham and one "Stephanie Nicks"). The songs aren`t quiteas strong as on "Excitable Boy", but there`s also a lot morevariety here. I saw Zevon perform "The French Inhaler" on anepisode of "The Larry Sanders Show" within the last year ortwo. The ending harmonies of "Desperados" gives me chillsevery damn time I hear it. Zevon`s as much a storyteller asa tunesmith, and this album has some real narrative gems("Carmelita" in particular). Some of these tracks are on thecompilation A Quiet Normal Life.
