Comments for The Verve, A Storm In Heaven

Debut full-length lp by the Verve. The best album of the1990`s.(pre 95)
a storm in heaven the debut album by the wigan band the verve is like a breath of fresh air. from the opening chord strum of star sail to the echoing goodbye in see you in the next one (have a good time) the verve spend fifty minutes creating an athereal maze of sound.the listener find themselves captured by the masterful guitar work of nick mccabe and the rich drug-induced vocals of richard ashcroft.although the album tends to lag in it's mid-section, virtual world and butterfly are both two minutes too long, it is over all a triumph. the albums second track slide away is four minutes and two seconds of pure brilliance. the song sends you on a journey of ambient waves and brings you back to earth with it's bone crushing chorus and erotic bassline.the albums finest five minutes though belong to already there. a song about the pleasures of tripping it makes you feel as though you are tripping right along with the band. and with its soft ending tones it stands alone as a masterpiece of modern music. a storm in heven is an album that should not be passed up. if urban hymns is the album that made the verve famous then this is the album that made them musicians.

Arguably one of the greates Psycadelic Masterpieces of the 90's, Verve struck gold with this great album, as they play music 10 years before their time. Mick Mccabe builds up great shimmering walls of sound, full with reverb and delay taking your mind on a trip of beauty. From the first distorted chord of Star Sail, to the awesome majesty of Slide away, the gracefull, peacefull texture of Beautiful Mind (personally one of my faveroites) the huge riffs of The Sun The Sea, the album will blow you away.
