Comments for Mamasaid, Fools Paradise

The band are: Jon H = Vocals / Guitar / Sax / Chris W = Lead Guitar Nigel P = Drums Finbarr = Bass / Vocals The Band have been influenced by Rock-Funk-soul-And Reggae artists such as Stevie Wonder / Prince / Black Crows etc which is obvious in there unique sound which blends all these styles in one. But they have taken this one step further creating what i feel to be an all new refreshing style of music.

The town of Nuneaton is situated about 10 miles South-West of Birmingham. Nuneaton is not a large town and has had no major acts come from it in the past until now. I was kucky enough to catch "Mamasaid" when they played in Bedworth and was blown away by the show. Being an up and coming journalist my self,I approached the vocalist Jon H and the Guitarist Chris W at the end of the night to see if I could get an interview, Both Agreed and this was the outcome......QUESTION--Jon! How did the band form? ANSWER--Well Chris and myself met playing a country band just for some experience,and er! we hated it. We decided to quit and do something we both liked,so after building up a reasonable amout of gear and material we recorded some stuff and it actually worked. QUESTION--Chris! where did you learn to play guitar like that because the solo''s were stunning? ANSWER--Thanks! I don''t really know,I just practice a lot.It''s like anything constructive really,If you don''t practice you don''t get anywhere. (Nigel the drummer walks over and pulls up a chair) "Carry on,don''t mind me" QUESTION-- Nigel, "Yep thats me,oh can i just say HELLO MUM,(he says doing a pretty good Michael Caine impression) make sure you put that bit in. ME--sure. How did you meet these two guy''s? ANSWER--well i new Jon from a dead end job we both did at one rather sad stage of our life''s. I new Jon was in band at the time and i was to but thats another story.I then quit this job at around christmas 94 and moved to London,and not long after Jon contacted me to say he needed the services of a brilliant drummer so the band could start rehersal, and that he couldn''t find one so would i like to play.And here i am. (The bass player had gone to find a night club that was still open) QUESTION--Jon--The music played tonight was excellent because the style seemed to be completely new,one song would be Funk and another Rock And another Jazz.So where did this style come from? ANSWER-- No place in particular,we all listen to a lot of differant styles basically and it just automatically comes out in the music. (The bass player returns and motions for them to finish) CHRIS--We''d better get going. ME--OK Guys,thanks very much for your time and the show was superb I also ahd to make tracks at that point so that ended a brief encounter with Mamasaid. The band are really worth a look if your a fan of Oasis,The Jam,Prince,Stevie Wonder,Portished,Massive Attack,James Brown..........
