Conceived by Talking Heads` bassist Tina Weymouth and drummer Chris Frantz as a project to explore new musical turf, Tom Tom Club became and innovative hit-making ensemble in their own right following the September 81 release of their self-titled debut album.| Recorded at Compass Point Studios in the Bahamas, where husband and wife Chris and Tina maintain a home, "Tom Tom Club" reflects both the sleepy tropical pulse of the Caribbean and the distinctly urban rhythms percolating from ghetto blasters and Manhattan dance clubs. It is music one critic has called "a playful mesh of funk bump, reggae stride, punk moxie and lilting lover`s rock."| Following the historic "Remain in Light" Talking Heads tour in early 81, Chris and Tina gathered a loose aggregate of friends, family and fellow musicians to form the Tom Tom Club. The baker`s dozen membership included King Crimson guitarist Adrian Belew, the Weymouth Sisters Chorale (Tina, Laura, and Lani), ex-Wailer Tyrone Downie and other top-notch musicians.
