Comments for Steinman, Jim, Original Sin

WOW! The first Steinmansong that I "fell in love with" was "Anything for love"(I still think thatīs Jims greatest songs, although a lot others disagree), and that was something new for me. For nearly a year I was a "Meat-admirer" before I bought Pandoras Box:Original Sin. It just cost about 5$ for a cassette, but still I wasnīt sure I wanted to buy it. But Jim Steinmanīs name and the price made me do so. But today I donīt regret that I did so. The album made me realise Iīm a steinmaniac, and I think the song "Original Sin" is Jimīs best next to "Anything for love" and "Original Sin" is the best album next to "BatII". See any connection here?

Original Sin is one of the most daring albums ever conceived, and is a no doubt one of the GREATEST albums ever too. It is a must for all Steinmaniacs, and I'd have bought it just for "I've been dreaming up a storm lately" - that could have so many different interpretations it goes beyond description. However, although I love it, it has one fatal flaw - it is too varied for most listeners. Although the album contains something for all listeners of whatever taste, it is not overall something for all listeners - it is too good to be mainstream. Another problem is that almost all of the songs on it have now been covered at least once - perhaps to new audiences of the future who have come across the reflections before the real thing that came first will find Pandora's Box little more than something to keep the originals in.

This album defines what is a rock ballad. (If you looking for it WWW.cdnow.com has it!) I should get some commission on what I sell? I have recommended this album more than any other over the years. it is simply the greatest album that no one has ever heard. It took me some searching before I realized that cdnow was the only place I could find in the USA to buy it, but it was well worth the search.
This is a very intense album, although the orchestrations are quite beautiful. It concerns itself with the darker side of love and desire; the separating event horizon between innocence and lust; and the fabric of dream lovers woven into the seduction of everyday life. It was almost entitrely written by Jim Steinman, one of this centuries most viruous pop composers. On vocals are Elaine Caswell, Delirina Wilde, Ellen Folley, and Holly Sherwood.
