Comments for Blue Oyster Cult, Imaginos

One of the better concept albums (The Who and Pink Floyd take note...this one has a plot!!!), Imaginos tells the story of a "Highlander" type immortal who is a secret-agent of dark gods. The story covers about 150 years and is very complex (boneheads beware) and takes more than a casual listening to deciper the lyrical riddles. Note: Also feature guest perfomances by the Doors Robbie Krieger, Joe Satriani, and Aldo Nova.

Imaginos is a complex tapestry of sound and lyrical riddles with occult over-(under)-tones; typical for the darkening aspect of BÖC/Pearlman related works. If it is not readily a fictional work in total, then it is an allegorical re-presentation of certain events and the forces behind those events. One cannot doubt, upon closer inspection, that the creativity behind this work has had much more than the average history courses.

Blue Oyster Cult has taken the raw power from years past, reshaped and refined the sound, thickened the soup with a plot, and tossed out at the world a nightmare, best remembered before the waters of amnesia come... -Buck Rogers

It is amazing to think that there are still two further albums on the back-burner which are to complete the Imaginos song cycle. If you wanna know more (and you should) check out the link to the BOC-L mailing list archives - totally worth the visit.

One of the Cult''s finest pieces of work, yet, strangely enough, they never play any of the songs from this album on their live set. Does anybody know why?

THE POWER AND THE MAGESTY. This concept album is my favorite with BOC along with SECRET TREATIES. Whereas other heavy-metal bands tend to depress you after listening to them for awhile, BLUE OYSTER CULT actually lifts you up and helps you get those ugly household chores done.
One of my favorite BOC albums, even if it doesn`t make a wholelot of sense. It`s supposed to be about this being from analternate dimesion who throughout time modifies history atkey pivotal points (at least, according to the cd liner :)
