Comments for Pere Ubu, Story Of My Life

Big bombastic highly-compressed hard rock. The first couple of songs are catchy enough to have a point to having been recorded but the album as a whole has nothing going for it.

This one sounds like it's got a big budget behind it. A very upbeat Ubu record and my personal favourite of the records they released between 1987 and 1993. Perhaps their most "accessible" album, with some great instrumentation and a handful of beautiful songs. But everyone wants their Ubu weird, don't they?

A wonderful recording - has everything one could want from PU and more

The return to the American Heartland that powers the best Ubu. It''s not in a class with the great early albums, but it''s a consolidation of gains made with the tentative pop steps of Cloudland and Tenement Year and the false steps of parts of Worlds In Collision. A set up for better things to come.

Their latest album (as of 2/96) is back to a sturdy rock`n`roll feel,so that without David Thomas` unique qualities it would notbe all that much to write about.
