Comments for Newman, Colin, Provisionally Entitled The Singing Fish

E-MAIL: cngrannell@yahoo.com
provisionally entitled the singing fish, released in mid 1981 marked a departure from the band format as Colin wrote all the tracks and played all the instruments. Certainly, it is 180 degrees from his previous work and not in the slightest a pop record. Cinematic but also slightly unfocussed the thirteen tracks (Fish One, Fish Two, Fish Three etc) are generally listenable but sometimes wander along without going anywhere. There are some highlights, particularly the wonderful "Fish One" but the LP is far from essential. As Jim Green said, "a thinking man''s musak".
Solo instrumental album from Wire singer Newman. Lots of oddsounds, no real tunes. Thumbs down.
