Comments for Newman, Colin, Bastard

Newman`s first de-facto solo LP for Swim~ is quite a departure from any previous work. It lacks vocals except on the final track (one line from Malka - "Don`t Turn Away") which might alienate fans of his earlier albums. Quite a range is covered from the minimalism of "G-Deep" to the jungle piss take "Slowfast - falling down the stairs with a drumkit". Elsewhere effected guitar loops mix with solid dance beats, heavy bass, and synths to create wonderful soundscapes within which one can loose oneself. "The Orange House and the Blue House" is the opitamy of all this, an incredible track which, along with the intelligent pop of "Turn" completes a brilliant album.
