Comments for Blur, Modern Life is rubbish

Their best album.

The best Blur album thus far! The American version of the album includes different versions (slightly) of Chemical World, For Tomorrow, and the U.S. version of Popscene. The best tracks are Starshaped, Villa Rosie, Coping....ah, all of them!

Without a doubt one of the best pop albums of all time, Shame the UK version doesn't contain Popscene (classic blur track) but it has got the lyrics and the guitar chords! Buy it (and the Popscene single if you can get it)!

A remarkable second album from a band that most people had written off for dead, "Modern Life is Rubbish" is a searing critique of late 20th century London. Leading off with "For Tommorow" and "Advert", two killer tracks, the first half of the album is virtually flawless; building up to the Beatlesque "Chemical World" and the foot-stompin' piano tune, "Intermission". Although the album seems to flounder near the end, MLIR stands out as one of the decade's top albums.

The strongest songs in my opinion are Chemical World For Tommorrow, Star shaped, advert, and sunday sunday This album definitely has a different feel than leisure. If I were to suggest to anyone who has no Blur albums I would probably suggest this album first, since it shows there diversity quite well. Brilliant, and no less.

Though not as accessible as "Parklife", "Modern Life Is Rubbish" should be seen as their most important album, because of the way it encapsulates all of the themes which the band have explored since. This was the album in which Blur found their identity, as well as a sound that was far more inventive and atmospheric than on "Leisure". "Chemical World" is quintessentially Blur, and "Colin Zeal" was the first of Albarn's character studies, which were to feature on their two subsequent albums.

Excellent album. I reckon Parklife is their classic album, but this one''s not far behind.
A brilliant album acclaimed by the critics
