Comments for Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Murder Ballads

Porphyria''s Lover ???? I agree with the first word but not the second. I am fully willing to agree with the fact that Nick Cave suffered from that mental disorder of bile metabolism when he wrote this song. Where the ''love'' bit comes in, I don''t know.
Leonard Cohen-ish, and heavily reliant on the lyrics. Piques your interest with each ballad, all of which arevery well written and original. There are no contrived lines. Though he tries quite hard, Cave doesn`t have thevoice of Cohen (who is obviously his hero). I would recommend this album to an intellectual listener. On "Wherethe Wild Roses Grow," a well-read audience will see thesimilarity it bears to Robert Browning`s "Porphyria`s Lover."
