Comments for Rypdal, Terje, If Mountains Could Sing

E-MAIL: crash@waste.org
This record marks a return to Rypdal''s more misty, ambient, introspective sound that pervades his earlier work. The record does have the Chasers on it, which would make you expect wailing fusion, but the lead guitar has the "fjord echo" on it and his lines keen with an unabashed romanticism. The addition of a small string ensemble adds to the serene atmosphere. Great late night listening, although some of the guitar bits are raging. Trivia bit: the "Return of Per Ulv" track refers to Wile E. Coyote, who always chases the Roadrunner.
Rypdal has been around since the 60`s, providing electric guitar based jazz that hovers in a vicinity close to Ambient. If you`re not familiar wih him, this is as goodas any of his records to check him out. Do so!
