Comments for Arnold, Bruce, Blue Eleven

Composer Guitarist Bruce Arnold starts off his debut CD Blue Eleven with some bright and beautiful tunes ("Hobroken","Did I Tell You"), but then launches into some very challenging listening. His interest in twelve-tone composition gets a workout with the "Variations", through the fusion-howler and title cut "Blue Eleven", and ends up with the stark and striking art song "A Day in the Badlands". This is an album of serious and unusual jazz, highlighted with superb artistry and virtuoso perfomances. Accompanying Bruce on the CD: Ratzo Harris on bass, Stomu Takeishi on bass, Todd Isler on Hadjini, Tony Moreno on drums, Kirk Driscoll on drums, and Thomas Buckner, on vocals.
