Comments for Northern Pikes, Big Blue Sky

The Northern Pikes are a four-piece band from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan which recorded 5 albums for Virgin Records between 1987 and 1993. The Northern Pikes featured Jay Semko on bass guitar, vocals and piano, Merl Bryck on rhythm guitar and vocals, Don Schmid on drums and percussion and Bryan Potvin on lead guitar and vocals. After the Northern Pikes split up, Jay Semko composed the theme music for the CBS-TV show "Due South" and released "Mouse," a solo CD.

In 1999, Virgin Records asked the members of The Northern Pikes for their input on an upcoming release of 'greatest hits'. During that time, the guys thought it would be fun to do a mini-tour in support of "Hits and Assorted Secrets"... a tour which soon grew in size. Having enjoyed their time back together, the band toured again in the summer of 2000, recording several shows for the release of a live album, appropriately called "Live". "Truest Inspiration" was released in 2001 and The Pikes continued to tour. Early spring of 2003 found them in the studio once again, working on a new album, with new tour dates to follow.
