Comments for Browne, Duncan and Graham-Jones, Sebastian, Travelling Man: The music from the Granada T.V. series

E-MAIL: ithomas@lucy.swin.edu.au
Amendment: make that "a NON-vocal version of "Max''s Theme/Travelling Man."
A very successful, totally instrumental album of textured rock music, encompassing a variety of moods, but mostly with a lonely, melancholy air. The music is played almost entirely by the exceptionally talented Browne and series director Graham-Jones, with a little assistance from Nic Potter (bass) and Malcolm Duncan (sax). There are alternative versions of a few of the tracks included on Duncan Browne`s "Songs of Love and War," among them a vocal version of "Max`s Theme/Travelling Man." The classical acoustic guitar parts are particularly beautiful and many tracks have a nice rock sensibility, but overall it may require a few listens to be fully appreciated. The featured lead sound is often a synthesised pan-pipe. Graham-Jones has written a moving tribute to Browne in the liner notes. (Ian C. Thomas)
