Comments for Monks of Kongobu-ji Temple, The, Shomyo: Japanese Buddhist Chant of the Shingon Sect

E-MAIL: ftoy01@hills.ccsf.cc.ca.us
From the CD cover(back): This is a rare recording of the Mieku ceremony - a Buddhist memorial service for the dead - as observed by the Shingon sect, and incorporating the Buddhist ceremonial music, Shomyo, which is over 2,000 years old. In this performance, recorded at the Okunoin temple on Mount Koya in 1993, an exceptional world of overtone has been created by the priests'' voices chanting the esoteric scriptures. Date of recording: July 21, 1993 Place of recording: Kongobu-ji Temple on Mount Koya, Nara
