Comments for Wilco, Being There

One of the two Uncle Tupelo offshoots (the other being Son Volt). With only a couple listens under my belt, this one seems"rock"ier than their first album, "A.M." Nice, long album with a few nice, long songs. Split onto 2 discs (eventhough it would have fit on one), reportedly to try to duplicatethe "experience" of listening to a 2-LP album; packaged in acrummy all-cardboard monstrosity, reportedly to allow WB tosell it at a single disc price. (I don`t buy it; many other 2-discs-for-the-price-of-1 sets come in jewel boxes.) But the music is definitely worth the inconvenience (this time):straight-ahead rock with some country seasoning.Raucous at times (but what great rock isn`t?). (08/29/97)
