Comments for Starship, Greatest Hits (Ten Years And Change 1979-1991)

Starship was one of the biggest and hottest bands of the 1980s. But the group has a strange story. Actually, Starship was born out of Jefferson Starship, which was born out of Jefferson Airplane. The first 5 songs on this album were done by Jefferson Starship from 1979-1984, which was the Mickey Thomas era of Jefferson Starship (he took over from when Marty Balin was co-lead singer). In 1984 Paul Kantner (guitarist) left and the band then was known as Starship. There are a lot of excellent songs on this album, 1980s rock classics, including three #1 hits: "We Built This City", "Sara", and "Nothing`s Gonna Stop Us Now". The Starship era, which was 1985-1991, had a lot of member changes as well; the other members included Donny Baldwin, Peter Wolf, Craig Chaquico, Pete Sears, and of course the band`s best member (and a rock and roll high priestess), Grace Slick. Actually, you don`t hear enough of Grace on lead vocal on this collection. The songs are great though, including two new songs "Good Heart" and "Don`t Lose Any Sleep". The Jefferson Starship songs are rocking too.
