Comments for Rapp, Michael; Neeley, Ted; Iverson, Yvonne and A-440, Ulysses: the Greek Suite

Have always loved this albumn, since it first came out some twenty years ago. Neeley's vocals and the instrumental arrangements are wonderful. I forget how good this albumn is until I put the CD on again, and it plays out fresh again. It only gets better with age. Thank you Michael Rapp.
If you`ve read any other album reviews by me you`ll know that I like concept/project things that feature various collected talents, particularly if they have a literary base. This one is a great success, with its strong alternating male/female lead vocals, clean progressive rock (of the era) style music and dexterous, polished keyboard playing from Michael Rapp himself. The musicianship is accomplished, without distracting from the central direction of the album, and the music conjures up images of Mediterannean sailing beautifully. The textures created are considerable (although of their time): there is no feeling that further instrumentation is required. The narrative focusses on the central concerns of Ulysses and Penelope, singing their own thoughts, with some minimal, nicely produced and non-instrusive narration to establish and conclude the story. Polyphemus, the Cyclops, is sung about by Ulysses, but the use of guests for Circe and the Sirens is an effective contrast to the two main leads. The end feels a little too sudden (it ends with the completion of the journey and doesn`t deal with what happens in Ithaca) and I would have preferred Odysseus as the protagonist`s name, as in Homer, rather than the Roman alteration. Still, these are minor criticisms of something that works so well. The music has progressive tendencies although the vocal parts are generally more rock musical style (a bit like some APP in places). Excellent! (Ian C. Thomas)

Ulysses, The Greek Suite was the CD that changed my life. I had stopped my creative endeavors over 10 years ago...I had discovered this CD after sampling another CD by Michael Rapp, Quasimodo ~ Prince of Fools. Michael Rapp's words and music are such that I was inspired, motivated and delighted with the way his concept album tells a story as it is set to music. It is inevitably the most treasure CD in my collection and I am looking forward to the new music Rasputin starring Ted Neeley that will take composer Michael Rapp to even a higher level than ever before. I highly recommend any of Michael Rapp's music and he has got an avid fan for life!

I RAISED MY CHILDREN ON THIS ALBUMN.WE DID OUR BEST ROMPING, LAUGHING, AND CRYING WITH ULYSSES AND GODSPELL. UNFORTUNATELY, WHEN MY ALBUMN COLLECTION WAS STOLEN, I MISSED THIS THE MOST. FOR FIFTEEN YEARS I HAVE SEARCHED FOR IT.I JUST RECENTLY GOT ONLINE AND IT WAS THE FIRST SEARCH I MADE.I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW HAPPY I AM RIGHT NOW.THANK YOU. SO MUCH. MAGGIE 9AND GODSPELL.
If you buy this album, the people that recorded it are not being paid for their performances on the album. It's a shame, because they invested a year or more of their lives in it's creation. There are binding contracts, on this material, but they are being ignored. Who am I?? The great lead guitar player, on this record. I'm disappointed in you all !!!!!!!!!!
