Comments for Glover, Roger and Guests, Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast, The

The animated series never eventuated, but many will remember the video clip for the Beatlesesque "Love is All," with Froggie singing in the voice of Ronnie James Dio. This is fair indication of the mood and style of this wonderful concept piece, with the various, well cast male and female singers representing different small animal characters. The pieces connect together into a coherent and logical sequence, often only being a minute and a half long: they show the way that Glover (with help from Eddie Hardin) composed them, writing and recording a new song each day. The music itself features a nice mixture of electric and orchestral instruments, without becoming ''70s symphonic. The instruments, as with the vocalists, seem to have been chosen according to their suitablility to the pieces. Glover (who belies altogether his Deep Purple roots) creates an inspired feel to everything, with a sense of momentum that never flags. There is an appropriate English sensibility to the whole thing: the only other album that I can readily compare it to is Mike Batt''s "The Hunting of the Snark." I''m pleased to hear that he is still proud of this work as it deserves to be remembered well. A lot of fun! (Ian C. Thomas)
Adapted by Roger Glover for a full colour animated television series produced by British Lion Films Limited in association with Aurelia Enterprises Limited, from the design and illustrations of the book "The Butterfly Ball" by Alan Aldridge ...
