Comments for Seymour,Phil, Precious To Me:The Best Of Phil Seymour

Phil Seymour`s all too short but very fruitful career is represented well by this retrospective collection. Tracks include highlights from his stints as a member of the Dwight Twilley Band and the Textones. There are also plenty of gems from Seymour`s days as a solo artist, most notably the track this collection is named after which also proved to be a big hit for Phil in 1981 cracking the Billboard top 40 singles chart in the spring of that year. Added bonuses include Phil`s rendition of the Bee Gee`s "First Mistake I Ever Made" which was recorded as part of a tribute album in 1992. There is also a very rarely heard Tom Petty penned track in this set titled "Save Me". The track is so obscure that it didn`t even find a place on Petty`s very complete 6-CD box set "Playback" released in 1995. A "must have" for any power pop fan or any rock n` roll fan for that matter. A great tribute to a truly underrated and overlooked vocalist, songwriter and drummer whose life was tragically cut short in 1993 by lymphoma. His music will live on forever!

This record is money maker for phil's former manager. Most all tracks are songs Saul davis & wife Carla olson have publishing on. Why is carla olson singing lead vocals on a song on a phil seymour record ? no excuse for that one when only 3 songs from phil's released solo catalog were included and a couple of tracks with the twilley band. This is the same kinda of shotty job saul has done with gene clark, releasing inferior home demos and things he owns the masters to, as opposed to putting together a solid record that delivers repect to to fine performers as gene & phil. The bulk of this phil record is made up of early 90's sessions, which phil told me before his death he did not want released. do not buy this. it is truly a disgrace and a slap in the face to such a talented singer and performer as phil seymour.
