Comments for Goadeg Sisters, The, Moueziou Bruded a Vreiz

The Goadeg sisters came from Treffrin in Brittany. Maryvonne, the eldest was born in 1900. Eugenia and Anastasia played major roles in the rebirth of traditional Breton songs (Kan ha Diskan). Their family was known for singing; they started singing with their parentsand ten brothers and sisters. All of the songs on this recording except song 3 were learnt during their childhood at Treffrin taught by their parents (songs 2 and 4), aunts (songs 1 and 10), or neighbours (songs 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 11). Their style is surprisingly universal inits sound. They convey a pure celtic sound which has become rare. The harmonies are typically celtic - at times almost Indian. These legendary voices are precious treasures that live in the tradition of Brittany.
