Comments for Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band, Trout Mask Replica

THIS IS CAPTAIN BEEFHEART. Like it or not, this is CAPTAIN BEEFHEART AND HIS MAGIC BAND IN ALL OF THEIR GLORYMESS. An excellent delve into noise and whatever else you want to call it. He is an originator and a genius, so powerful that a disease (mult. sclerosis) had to cripple him to stop his rampage of music, a sad thing indeed. I am quite frankly sort of scared of this album, but at the same time it draws me in and tosses me violently. The songs(?) are strangely mershed together making the whole album a huge theme for the time they lived in. Even at the end when a song or two night be apparent, it is a great & pleasantly frustrating listen. A suggestion for listeners: if you can hold back, don`t read the lyrics in the liner notes the first time through. Just let ol` Beefy take you away to his world. Once you return, you`ll never be the same. You might even want to burn the liner notes after that! Overall, A monument of sounds whether you you like it or not.
