Comments for Camel, Moonmadness

Maybe this is the bets of Camel discography. Long passages plenty of images, soundscapes and a right balance between rock with a touch of jazz, with behind an incredible sense of melody make this one a real winner (Carlos Martinez, Mexico).

This is a real classic -- a must have for any lover of progressive or even New Age music. Very smooth production and good compositions make Moonmadness a very interesting, soothing, and transcendental experience. I'd say that this is definitely some of Camel's best work.

This album creates in me very strong emotions. It brings to mind peaceful landscapes with an unsettling feeling just underneath. Very powerful. An emotional rollercoaster.

This is a nicely balanced four piece effort with plenty of contribution from all four members. The vocal distortions do get a little annoying and this is a transitional album, a departure from both early and late Camel type sounds. As a concept type album it works nicely, with lots of smooth, melodic synthesiser and moody piano from Bardens, fluid guitar and flute from Latimer and fine, driving rhythms from Ferguson and Ward. "Lunar Sea" (that''s a pun) is a great closer: a shifting, driving instrumental with classic progressive timing changes (this is included on "A Compact Compilation" along with "Aristillus" and "Spirit of the Water" from this album). I recognise that this fine album may not be to everyone''s taste but it is accessible and contains lots of good material. (Ian C. Thomas)
