Comments for Raitt, Bonnie, Sweet Forgiveness

laszlo@hotmail.com
This is another album often criticized for compromising Bonnie's blues roots in favor of more pop-oriented Linda Ronstadt territory. While Bonnie has said she was a fan of Linda's, she had no intention of following her lead. But this album, slick as it may sound, is nevertheless a good entry in Bonnie's discography. It provided her with her first near-hit single with a cover of Del Shannon's, Runaway. She also returns to her old friends Bill Payne, Eric Kaz, Jackson Browne and Paul Siebel for some good ones, while also introducing Karla Bonoff and Don Covay (with her first truly R&B-based song since the TAKIN' MY TIME era).
