Comments for Raitt, Bonnie, Streetlights

Often disliked for its slickness, this album had Bonnie further exploring singer-songwriter material. Even though the album may not be well-liked, it still has some great song choices. Bonnie virtually worships John Prine, and she turns in a wonderful version of his classic, Angel From Montgomery. She also puts her spin on songs by Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Allen Toussiant & Jerry Ragavoy. Songs like those prove that even though Bonnie was keeping her own songwriting at arm's length this early on, she still knew what a good song was, even an original by Little Feat's keyboardist Bill Payne (another Bonnie favorite who she often sang back-up for). Her next album would bring some of the grit back, but this is still an album unworthy of its bad reputation.
