Comments for Church, The, Hologram Of Baal

First album for independent label Thirsty Ear Records

For a band that's been around for two decades, The Church hasn't changed all that much. Their music is still as atmospheric as ever, the only thing really different is that their songs are a bit longer than usual. Most of their songs in the '90s have ran passed the 6-minute mark, the 14-minute title track on their last album case in point. Things are trimmed down a hair on HOLOGRAM OF BAAL, and the result is that if America had given Church a higher profile, any of the songs on here could have become hits. Also, the album works equally well as both background music and good listening. A new album from The Church is due out early next year, so let's hope it follows the good standard set by this album.
