Comments for Charlatans UK, Up To Our Hips

Overall, a richer, deeper album than 'some friendly'(which i loved) but the best bits still throw back to that melancholy which pervades "Sproston Green" (from that album). Rather than "Can't get out of bed", I prefer "Come in number 21" and "Inside-Looking Out" - but the strength of the album is that you have the choice.

"Up To Our Hips" sees the post-Madchester Charlatans in transistion. Their ability to write pop songs is evident; "Can't Get Out of Bed" is an excellent example how music should sound in the 1990's. More guitar based than their previous efforts, this album reveals a band in transition; moving from "baggy" to a more complete, Rolling Stones type funk. Although uneven at times, there are several high points, particularly "Jesus Hairdo" and a six minute instrumental called "Feel Flows".

Album starts with "Come in Number 21", and hey, they have the trippy-groove back that was missing in "Between 10th and 11th"! Hallelujah! Reality soon sets in, and the trippy groove disappears until "Jesus Hairdo". Overall, an average Charls album which still makes it 10 times better than the crap you hear on the radio...

One of my favourite albums of all time, all the songs get 10/10 as far as I'm concerned.

Love the album, but for some reason I get lost after "up to our hips".

They're getting in the groove now. It's nowhere near perfect, but it is a huge improvement over 10th and 11th. Rob really takes hold of this CD and drives it along. Some great numbers, but, but not all of it clicks.

'Feel Flows'! Did YOU feel it? It seems it was going to pull out my brain out of my head and making my feet running away from me. Absolutely best GROOVE ever! This and 'Patrol' makes me feel like PEACE! But I don't think it has something to do with the fact, that it is instrumental. The whole album deserves eleven points out of ten!

BEST ALBUM EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It`s totally complete. You can`t find anything even close to this album. "Easy Life" is out of this world. And the last song "Inside-looking out.", makes me freeze every time I hear it. THANK YOU, CHARLIES !

HAVE to agree with the last chap. Hands down the best ever recorded on planet earth. If there is only one album you could ever have, this has to be it. Every song on the album is an 11/10...Feel flows is their best ever jam (although Thank You is pretty close) Up To Our Hips (sweet European, y''know?) Jesus Hairdo (screw religion), COME IN NUMBER 21 rules!!! (I know your university)...never want an easy life slams in, can''t get out of bed chills you out, autograph lets you cruise, PATROL rules!!! One of the best, and can we ever forget??? RIDER UP IN FLAMES...awesome track...so is the last one... the other guys was right too....1000000 TIMES BETTER THAN THE CRAP YOU HEAR ON THE RADIO!!!
My personal favorites are "Can`t get out of bed" and "Jesus Hairdo." Enjoy.
