Comments for Cheap Trick, Busted

"I Can't Understand It" rivals the live version of "Surrender" as Trick's best tune ... the archetypical exuberant mainstream rocker.

Some of Cheap Trick's most moving ballads are contained on this album, including the beautiful "When You Need Someone" (Hmmm... strangely reminiscent of "The Flame") and "Wherever Would I Be".

This was Cheap Trick's best album since "One on One". The only problem is they should have released "I Had To Make You Mine" as the single, not "Can't Stop Falling into Love", which could be called "Son of Flame".

Like Lap of Luxury (also produced by Rich Zito), Busted lacks energy. The poppy album is the second in a series of dissappointing Cheap Trick efforts. That's not to say that it doesn't contain some great songs, like "Walk Away" and "Had To Make You Mine". I agree that "Can't Help Falling Into Love" shouldn't have been released- it's easily my least favorite track on the album. After the timid Lap of Luxury CD, Cheap Trick would have probably had more success with something that rocked a little more (like their former self). Perhaps the first track?

This album has aged well. Originally I was disappointed with it, aside from the cover of Roy Wood's "Rock & Roll Tonight," which really kicks. However, after the box set came out and I had a chance to hear a few songs out of context, I went back and found this to be rather enjoyable except for a couple of cheesy ballads. Pound for pound, I think it's actually a better effort than "Lap of Luxury," though "Lap" was the one that had all the radio hits.

BUSTED IS A BIG TIME BUST. THIS IS CHEAP TRICK''S EFFORT TO GET BACK TO THE MAINSTREAM BY SACRIFICING THE ROCK EDGE THAT GOT THEM THERE. THEY SHOULD STOP WRITING ABOUT LOVE, AND GET BACK TO WRITING ABOUT THE GOOD STUFF THAT WAS ON "THE DOCTOR".
Even with the help of Crissy Hynde and Mick Jones, this albumfell way short of the efforts of their previous albums. Bun E.Carlos, Rick Nielsen, Tom Petersson and Robin Zander put togethera typical, yet not outstanding assemblage of material. This, tied with the never-released Marvel comic was a definate dissappointmenteven for die-hard Cheap Trick fans.
