Comments for Younger Younger 28's, Soap

YY28's cheerfully cheesy 80s-style synthpop stylings are entertaining in small doses, but grate over a whole album. On the plus side, their imitation of Dare-era Human League is greatly helped by singer Joe Northern's vocal resemblance to Phil Oakey, and a few tracks (particularly "Valerie", a clever ode to a telephone sexline operator) do stand up to repeated listenings, but unfortunately the filler weighs down what should have been a fantastic pop album. Ironically the best track here is their completely straight cover of The Cure's "Inbetween Days" tacked onto the end.
