Comments for Cohen, Leonard, Death of a Ladies Man

E-MAIL: mcollins@aardvark.ucs.uoknor.edu
This is not an album Leonard is esp. happy with. Phil Spector's "wall of sound" is not the best setting for LC's lyric poetry. OTW, the best lyrics with the worst production. Makes one nostalgic for _Songs from a Room_

I realize that Ladies'' Man is a record Cohen and many of his fans would rather forget, but I think it''s monumental. There''s something so surrealistically right about the combo of Spector (one of my favorite producers) and Cohen--just because it''s so wrong on the surface. It''s an indispensable totem of 70s kitsch, from the cover art to the impenetrable yet shallow songs and arrangements.
Great album
