Comments for Cooder, Ry, Crossroads

E-MAIL: rbg@infonline.net
Feelin' Bad Blues is an excellent piece of slide guitar work...bluesy, soulful, dripping with emotion. Also, another piece that's in the movie but not on the soundtrack that's equal in excellence is the piece played when "Lightning Boy" and "Blind Dog" are seeking shelter from the rain, and yet another Dobro-like, searing blues solo is played when they both find themselves standing at the crossroads trying to summon the Devil (Legba) to talk him into ripping up the contract that holds Blind Dog's soul in bondage. I haven't even gotten to the headcuttin' duel at the end! These are all mind-blowing slide guitar pieces that secure Ry Cooder's reputation as being one of the best slide guitarists in the business, yet none of these (except for Feelin' Bad Blues) are on the soundtrack. But they should be. They're good enough to be worthy of it, and to listen to again, and again, and again...

Just as a correction of the previous review of Crossroads, on the album, the head-cutting duel is not included. -Tim
